Drag Queen Story Hour at Bayard Rustin Center For Social Justice in Princeton NJ

Sunday, August 25, 2024 - 11:00AM to 12:00PM EST

BRCSJ Defenders of the Right to Read are servin’ up some history as meaningful as it is fabulous with a Drag Queen Story Hour!

The inspiration for their life's work & the name of our Center for Social Justice, the inestimable Bayard Rustin, was, among oh-so-many extraordinary good works, the Chief Organizer of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs & Freedom.

This August 28th will mark the 61st anniversary of that extraordinary event, with over 250,000 people showing up & showing out at our nation's capital in the pursuit of expanded civil rights, the culmination of Bayard's tenacious efforts to organize such a feat in just three months.

It is the spirit of Bayard's fierce determination to persist in the face of obstacles & prejudices that not only motivates us but serves as the catalyst for this anniversary event, so please join them at BRCSJ HQ on Sunday, August 25th at 11:00 am.

BRCSJ Drag Queen-in-Residence, the divine Harmonica Sunbeam will be conducting a Drag Queen Story Hour to celebrate & commemorate the special occasion, & when Harmonica’s in the house, you definitely wanna’ be there!

At a time when books are being challenged & banned at a record pace, & Drag Queen Story Hour has become the target of harmful & erroneous narratives, they can think of no better way to embody Bayard's defiant persistence than to commemorate the anniversary of his hard work with an event that demonstrates our commitment to fighting for & normalizing our access to intellectual freedom & fun & funky storytimes!
