Jewish Pride Service & Celebration at Fair Lawn Jewish Center in Fair Lawn NJ

Tuesday, June 21, 2022 - 6:00PM to 7:00PM EST

The First Annual Northern New Jersey Community LGBTQIA+ Jewish Pride Service and Celebration will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 6:00pm at the outdoor parking lot of the Fair Lawn Jewish Center/Congregation B’nai Israel, 10-10 Norma Avenue, Fair Lawn.

Open to all including the entire LGBTQIA+ community, allies, activists, friends, family and clergy, the event is appropriate for all ages.

With the theme “Across the Spectrums,” the Northern NJ Community Jewish Pride Service and Celebration will include presentations from members of the Jewish LGBTQIA community. Speakers will describe individual experiences being both LGBTQIA and Jewish coupled with thoughts on how things have been, how it has gotten better/worse in their lifetime, and offering recommendations on ways to make things better for the future.

The event will include wordless songs led by special guests, selected prayers and readings, “Over the Rainbow” song performance by soloists, dance/vogue performance, socializing and ice cream.

“Instead of needing to hide parts of our identity or be forced to choose between being Jewish and LGBTQIA+, this event is a safe and sacred space to celebrate and honor what it means to be both,” said Tzivya Kraus, event chair. “We so desperately need these spaces to simply and joyfully be our whole selves, to share our struggles and challenges, and to be joined and supported by the people who love and respect us.”

Added Rabbi Rachel Stalston from the Fair Lawn Jewish Center/Congregation B’nai Israel, “As a Rabbi, it is my task to bring Jews closer to Judaism, the Jewish community and God. A care belief of Judaism is that each human being is created in the image of God. With this Pride Service, we are creating a welcoming space to gather, celebrate and offer gratitude for our diversity and our ability to be ourselves as LGBTQIA+ Jews and allies.”

Registration for the Jewish Pride Service and Celebration is free; however, registration is required to plan for adequate seating, security and ice cream.

Additional community partners include Eshel, Keshet, and JQY.
