Curious about bootblacking? Got supplies but not sure what to do next? Never even heard of a bootblack, but really into watching people rub on boots? Join us for "So You Want To Be a Bootblack," a beginner-level class taught by 2020/2021 Northeast Bootblack, SteeleToe the Bootblack.
SteeleToe began his journey as a bootblack in 2017, and his first public appearance at the Eagle NYC marked the first time that a person of color worked the chair at the Eagle NYC. Since then, he has blacked at CLAW, MAL, the Leatherman of Color contest, the NJ Leather contests, the Philadelphia Leather contest, the Lake Erie Bootblack Weekend, as well as many other regional activities. In November, he plans to compete for the title of International Mr. Bootblack at IML/IMBB in Chicago. Like most bootblacks, SteeleToe is passionate about strengthening the Leather community and does so through fundraising, volunteering, and education. SteeleToe is a member and former VP and President of the NY/Northeast chapter of ONYX. He is also a member of the Leather Heart Foundation's Soles with Heart program, where bootblacks collect, restore, and sell leather to support the Leather Heart Foundation's activities.
