GENESIS of GAAAYS IN SPAAACE:

“To Fix the Problems of Today… We MUST Have HOPE for Tomorrow.” – DAN DEEVY, Founder

GAAAYS IN SPAAACE (GIS) exists to promote the importance of positive LGBTQ+ character inclusion in pop culture entertainment; particularly within the prophetic realm of science fiction.

GIS was created in 2016 to celebrate the historic step forward taken in STAR TREK: BEYOND, which finally depicted members of the LGBTQ+ Community in the STAR TREK Universe.

It has since grown into a full-fledged nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring the continued presence & exploration of these characters in the years to come.

Our goal is to empower LGBTQ+ youth by exposing them to optimistic visions of the future like Gene Roddenberry’s STAR TREK, where universal equality has FINALLY become a reality.

We’re also determined to relieve ignorance & promote understanding within the largely heterosexual STAR TREK fan community by fostering a better understanding of LGBTQ+ individuals.

To date, GIS has produced over 60 individual events which have spanned a dozen major US cities, featured more than 30 celebrity guests, and has been attended by well over 3,000 fans!

We’ve also been sponsored by creator Gene Roddenberry’s son, Rod Roddenberry, who told GIS Founder & Executive Director Dan Deevy that GIS was “exactly the kind of organization that [his father] would have enjoyed supporting and that [he’d be] proud of the impact that it’s having.”

We’re gratified to say that ‘GAAAYS IN SPAAACE’ events continue to be celebrations of genuine importance for LGBTQ+ Trekkies and all our straight allies who have forever maintained that this day would eventually arrive!

ABOUT OUR EVENTS:

GIS hosts dozens of events throughout the year, including a weekly Star Trek viewing party in New York City at a local bar/lounge called, Vodka Soda (315 W 46th St, New York, NY 10036)

The largest of our events is our annual "The Wrath of Vegas" Celebration which takes place in Las Vegas, NV in early August. This years' 'Wrath of Vegas' took place at Piranha Nightclub and turned out to be the largest, most successful event we've ever had!

It is important to note that our events are attended by people from every different type of background imaginable. Many are members of the LGBTQ+ community, but there are also just as many who are not. In the spirit of an inclusive future, everyone is welcome at our events!

These are nights dedicated to celebrating the inclusive Utopian future that Roddenberry created for ALL mankind and our crowds always reflect that. Without fail, each event has been a truly unforgettable gathering of fans and celebrities alike all of whom mix and mingle as they celebrate Gene Roddenberry’s philosophy of IDIC… ‘Infinite Diversity In Infinite Combinations.’
